I had VBG 11/2001.  I did lose 100lbs, but still need to lose 120 or so.  I have kept that 100 off for the last 6 years, but can't seem to lose the rest. I am considering doing a revision to gastric bypass.  I just want to know how others have done switching from VBG to Gastric bypass??

Do you realize that you could get the platinum standard of weight loss surgeries that most people don't even know about? It is the Duodenal Switch. It is statistically way better that the RNY (Gastric Bypass). Come on over to the http://www.obesityhelp.com/forums/DS/ and educate yourself on all your options. This is what we like to call "paying it forward". Good luck to you.

Hi there.  Good to see that you have kept the 100 pound loss off!!!  That's awsome!!!!

I have not had my revision, yet.  I am looking into doing a revision from my RNY to a DS.  Good to see you post.  Research all of your options, and make an informed decision.

Good luck & keep us informed!!!!!

Thanks for your replies! I have looked at the DS, but not enough.  I am going to take your advice and explore that option further! Thanks again!

Go for the DS, it's the best surgery out there.  I had a revision from Lapband to the DS and I couldn't be happier.  Here's my post of my before and after photos.

I had VBG in 1996 and sadly it was not a good experience for me at all.

This past March 2009 I had a revision RNY and so far 3 months out I have lost 36 lbs. Surgery and recovery since have been great...no complications whatsoever! I know my weight loss is slower this time around, but I am ok with that...I feel awesome and am very happy I had the revision!

Good luck!

I strongly encourage working with your surgeon AND doing research - they will be able to walk you through (given your specific conditions) what options will make the most sense but you will be armed with additional questions and/or options that may not be brought up otherwise. I had my revision on April 28, 2009 (from VBG to RNY) and could not be happier! I have lost 45 pounds and am able to enjoy foods that I previously would get sick on.

Best of luck!

I have appointment on July 15th with my surgeon to get my surgery date for bypass.

I had my VBG in May of 2004 and had lost nearly 100lbs with about 60more to go.  I stopped and then started having issues..And have since gained anywhere for 15-20lbs back and have resumed my old habits.

I returned to my surgeon only to find out after CT and Endoscopy with dilation that I have scar tissue that is blocking the opening to my pouch and there for I dump everything that I eat.  I spoke to my surgeon about revision and DS and he said that he did not recommend DS as it has NOT been around long enuff to know the long term results and whether or not weight gain was a possibility..since I am doing this for the 2nd time around I prefer better results' than that, and for long term.

I say do as much research as you can and if you trust your doctor and have been completely honest with him..then trust what he thinks is going to be a good option for you.

good luck !

Thank you for the response.  I have an appointment July 3rd with a surgeon who was highly recommended.  After some research I have decided on the RNY.  I am not interested in the DS.  In fact the surgeon I am seeing does not even do the DS so I am just going to stick with the RNY.   I cannot wait.  Keep me updated on what happens with you!  Good Luck!

awsome and congrats!

My Dr who is very well known here for these type's of surgeries and is very well respected with very low list of complications after surgery also said that none of those other surgeries were a good idea for me.  The sleeve he won't/doesnt even do or recommend.

As I said I trust him and what he feel's would be the best option for me, and have now gotten approval from my insurance company for my revision to be done, so hopefully when I see my surgeon on the 15th we will be also scheduling my surgery, I am feeling alot of different things BUT mostly I am excited to get back on track and start loosing again and to be healthy!

Keep me posted on how your appointment goes with your doctor and I'll do the same.

Best of luck! :)
